Tips drop two

Published 5:45 pm Saturday, September 11, 2010

Greeting from Everett Memorial Stadium, where the Everett AquaSox tonight will try to keep their Northwest League championship hopes alive.

As for the Tips, in case you missed it they lost a pair of exhibition games at the Tr-City tournament, falling 6-3 to Seattle on Thursday and losing 6-4 against Portland on Friday. That dropped Everett’s preseason record to 2-3.

The losses are nothing to panic about, considering Everett was missing seven players to NHL training camps, and neither game was a blowout. However, the Tips were badly outshot in both games, which tends to suggest the opposition was controlling play. This isn’t completely unexpected when playing Seattle, as the T-birds were playing at nearly full strength. However, Portland has 13 — that’s right, 13 — players at NHL camps. Half of Portland’s lineup from Friday’s game won’t even make the team this season. Only time will tell whether that means the Tips have concerns, or whether Portland is just scary good.
