Wenatchee golfer leads state senior amateur

EAST WENATCHEE — Lew Mullen, a local player out of East Wenatchee, took the lead Wednesday with a 2-over par 74 in the WSGA Senior Amateur Championship at Wenatchee Golf and Country Club. Mullen’s two-day total stands at 2-over par 146, five strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.

Rick Weihe (Bellingham) and Larry Daniels (Seattle) are tied at second with a 7-over par 151 going into the third and final round. Daniels was the only player of the day to shoot under par with a 2-under par 70, which included an eagle on the par 4 15th hole.

Kirk Smith of Everett, shot a 5-over par 77 which brought him into a tie for fourth place with Gudmund Lindbjerg (Port Moody, B.C.), who had a 4-over par 76 day.

Everett had four more players in the competition. Bob Burton and Terry Wilde are tied for 12th with six other players with a 35-over par 179. Duane Diede is tied with four golfers for 23rd place after leading at the end of round one. Jack Johnson is in 35th place.
