N. Cascades Highway reopens after 2-day closure

The North Cascades Highway was open on Monday after a two-day closure because of the danger of avalanches.

Dangerous weather on Saturday caused state transportation crews to close Highway 20 between milepost 134 and 171. Up to 3 feet of snow buried the highway and filled avalanche chutes, said Dustin Terpening, state Department of Transportation spokesman.

The road was reopened to traffic about 12:30 p.m. Monday.
