TALKING POINTS
First of all, it was real good seeing Tips head coach Craig Hartsburg tonight. Hartsburg, who underwent heart surgery at the beginning of the month, attended tonight’s game and watched it from the press area. He’s up and about now, and although he’s still trying to regain his strength, he’s making good progress in his recovery as everything appears to be going as planned.
However, what Hartsburg saw tonight couldn’t have done his heart any good. Everett played a real lackluster game as a lot of the Tips weren’t moving their feet. There were a few exceptions (Ryan Murray, Parker Stanfield), but there were several passengers out there tonight, and that made it pretty easy on Seattle.
The T-birds were in control throughout because they scored within the first two minutes of each period. Everett was never able to respond to that. And when the Tips did apply some pressure late in the game, they fired wide from their best scoring positions.
TURNING POINT
Despite the sluggishness, Everett still had hope going into the third period, trailing just 2-1. But Seattle’s Marcel Noebels scored just 17 seconds into the period, and that pretty much did it.
HIT OF THE DAY
I didn’t catch who it was, but a Seattle player put a nice takeout hit into the boards on Brennan Yadlowski to give Noebels a free run at goal for that killer third-period tally. It wasn’t the biggest hit of the night, but it was the most meaningful, and I really wish I could give appropriate credit.
THREE STARS
First star: Calvin Pickard, Seattle. 30 saves, but a lot of those came from shots from the perimeter.
Second star: Murray. One goal, he tried his best to keep the Tips going.
Third star: Burke Gallimore, Seattle. Two goals, he completely undressed an Everett defender on his first one.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Stanfield. The rare Everett forward who was moving his feet tonight.
