Prep girls basketball: Holy Names 64, Monroe 53

MONROE — If it wasn’t for the first quarter of the game, the Monroe girls basketball team might have quite a feather in their cap.
The Bearcats hosted Holy Names, the top-ranked Class 3A team in the Associated Press poll, in a nonleague game Saturday night.
The undefeated Cougars took a 23-9 lead over the Bearcats in the opening quarter en route to a 64-53 victory.
The victory improved Holy Names’ record to 15-0. Monroe fell to 9-7.
Monroe outscored Holy Names 44-41 after the opening eight minutes of play.
Monroe’s Suzanna Ohlsen scored 21 points, with four assists and three steals. The Bearcats’ Kierra Wilkins had six points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Jasmine McCleave’s 20 points and Erika Johnson’s 16 led the Cougars.
