Landon Ferraro could return by the end of the season

Silvertips center Landon Ferraro might not be out for the rest of the season. Ferraro, who was diagnosed with a hernia, is heading to Detroit this week to be evaluated by the Red Wings’ doctors (he signed a professional contract with the Red Wings earlier in the season). Those doctors will determine whether Ferraro will undergo surgery now or after the season. If Ferraro undergoes surgery to repair the hernia, he could be back in early March, in time for the stretch run.

It’s been a rough season for Ferraro, who missed time earlier this season with a concussion and also suffered through a long dry spell. He’d just gotten back up to speed, tallying nine points in six games before being sidelined by the hernia.

In other news, there was a Chad Suer sighting at practice today. The overage defenseman has missed the entire second half so far because of a broken jaw. Suer’s jaw is still wired shut, but he participated in today’s practice on a limited basis, wearing a full bubble on his helmet. Suer is scheduled to have the wires removed from his jaws at the end of the month and is expected to return soon after.
