TALKING POINTS

And just like that the Silvertips are back in the playoff hunt.

It wasn’t Everett’s best performance tonight, but the Tips used good goaltending from Kent Simpson and a crucial tip goal from Tyler Maxwell to win consecutive games for the first time in more than a month. Now Everett suddenly finds itself in a favorable position battling for a playoff spot. The Tips began the weekend alone in last place in the Western Conference. But the Tips couldn’t have asked for a better set of results the past two days, and now they find themselves tied for seventh with a team (Kamloops) that’s played three more games, and just four points behind Prince George for sixth. Everett has a chance to make it a six-point weekend against Seattle on Sunday in Kent, and how big would that be in the playoff picture?

TURNING POINT

Everett seemed well in control, leading 3-0 midway through the third period, and the Tips were doing a good job of salting the game away. But two goals in 20 seconds by the Cougars turned the game on its head and made for a tense few minutes before Maxwell came up with a special tip to secure it for Everett.

HIT OF THE DAY

Everett’s Rasmus Rissanen was on a mission tonight. He had a couple of huge hits, the best coming midway through the second period when he blew up Sena Acolatse into the boards in the corner.

THREE STARS

First star: Ryan Murray, Everett. Three assists, including the shot that Maxwell tipped in for the clincher.

Second star: Simpson. 31 saves, he seems to have found a groove.

Third star: Maxwell. Two goals, his second straight two-goal game. He also now leads the league with 10 game-winning goals.

The Herald’s honorable mention: Charles Inglis, Prince George. One goal, this kid has all kinds of tools.
