Prep girls basketball: Kamiak 62, Mariner 25

MUKILTEO — Kamiak guard Lexi Burns had a fine game with 16 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead Kamiak to a 62-25 win over Mariner in a Wesco South girls basketball game Tuesday at the Kamiak gym.

The Knights clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth with the victory.

“W

e pressed and ended up forcing a number of turnovers,” said Kamiak assistant coach Matt Newsome about the first half, when Kamiak outscored the Marauders 33-14. “We went on a nice run right before halftime.”

Kamiak got to the foul line nine times in the first half, shooting 18 free throws.

A number of Kamiak players had excellent defensive games, Newsome said, led by Laurenna Plourd with nine rebounds and five blocks.
