MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon overcame a sluggish first quarter to outscore Mountlake Terrace 38-20 over the next two and hold on for a 55-49 semifinal win in the 3A District 1 boys basketball tournament.

“That second quarter was big for them to get back on track,” Mountlake Terrace head coach Nalin Sood said. “I thought that was the difference in the ballgame. We didn’t get it going until the fourth quarter and by then, it was too late.”

With the loss, Mountlake Terrace will take on Oak Harbor in a loser-out contest on Wednesday.

“We’ll have to get better if we have any chance of getting any further in the playoffs,” said Sood.
