Anchorage elementary class behind anti-panhandling bus signs

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Signs on People Mover buses in Anchorage against panhandling are the idea of a class at Rogers Park Elementary.

The signs on eight buses read, “Panhandling is Illegal. Donate to a local charity instead.”

KTUU reports students in the class, taught by David Huycke, came up with the idea after hearing from an Anchorage police officer and the director of Bean’s Cafe and Outreach Center.

The idea became reality with donations from several Anchorage groups.
