Prep softball: Lakewood 9, Sultan 5

LAKEWOOD — Alexa Chase delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 5-4 game to give Lakewood the breathing room that it needed as it went on to defeat Sultan. Senior Mariah Smith carried the Cougars up until that point with a 3-for-4 night from the plate and three runs scored. Kortney Fritz (2-0) pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing five runs on six Sultan hits. The Turks (0-1, 0-2) received a couple home runs but fell short. Catcher Kelsi MacDicken went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI while Rachel Kirkpatrick added the other homer.
