Blame Congress, not corporations

Published 12:01 am Sunday, April 17, 2011

As I helped my accountant do my taxes the other night, it dawned on me: Who pays more taxes than absolutely required? Who doesn’t take every deduction and exemption they can? Why should Exxon, GE, Boeing, Bank of America, etc., be any different? We’re calling them unpatriotic tax dodgers, when if fa

ct they are doing the same thing we do: following the letter of the law to minimize their tax liability.

Let’s put the blame where it belongs: on our representatives in Congress, beholden to the highest bidder, who give us the best government money can buy. Until they become independent of the lobbyists and corporations that feed their insatiable appetite for campaign funds, nothing is going to change.

Don’t protest the corporations, protest the system that allows for, or even promotes, ever-increasing public debt and ever-decreasing public services.
