EvCC loses opener at NWAACC baseball tourney

LONGVIEW — Joe Offer hit a grand slam to cap a six-run eighth inning as Lane Community College defeated Everett Community College in a first-round Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges baseball tournament game at Lower Columbia College on Thursday.

EvCC (34-10) plays Pierce in

a loser-out game in the double-elimination tournament at 9:35 a.m. Thursday.

The Trojans scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh — scoring on Levi Cartas’ (Marysville Pilchuck High School) RBI double, a sacrifice fly by David Amberton (Cascade) and an RBI single by Mike Gange (Marysville Pilchuck) — to take a 4-2 lead before Lane’s eighth-inning uprising.

Everett starting pitcher Ricky Holm hit leadoff batter Matt Myrmo with a pitch before Darrell Hunter hit two-run homer to tie the score 4-4. Skip Spencer singled, Tym Pearson doubled and Jordyn Van Atta was intentionally walked before Offer hit his two-out grand slam to give Lane an 8-4 lead.

The Trojans’ Alex Reynolds (Bothell) went 3-for-3 — three singles — and stole two bases. Amberton had a home run and two RBI.
