Darrington’s having a Meltdown

For the 11th year, the Summer Meltdown will feature a number of local bands boogying, rocking and transforming a weekend in Darrington into a memorable party.
The Meltdown again features Seattle’s Flowmotion with their signature jammy sound and laid-back groove.
The band started the Meltdown in a back yard on the San Juan Islands. For the past five years, the scene moved to Darrington.
Also headlining this year is up-and-coming band Massy Ferguson, whose sound is a bit reminiscent of early Bruce Springsteen.
Still, it’s the overall alchemy that makes the Summer Meltdown special.
“There’s something for everybody,” festival director Sarah Payne Hall said. “You will walk away from Meltdown with your new favorite band.”
A little bit like the scene at a prolonged Grateful Dead show, the Meltdown is a big camp-out under the stars with music that will send you to the heavens.
New this year, there will be a “interactive foam experience,” a giant game where people can spray each other with soap provided by Dr. Bronner’s.
About 4,000 people are expected, Hall said.
Other bands this year include ALO, Everyone Orchestra with guest Marco Benevento, Orgone, Mike Dillon’s Go Go Jungle, SambaDa, Jamie Janover, Cody BeeBe & the Crooks, Polecat, Andrew Vait with guest Olivia de la Cruz, Sandy Dickerson and Sarah Schmidt.
The festival runs today through the wee hours of Monday morning. Tickets for the entire weekend are $130, $40 for children ages 9 to 15, $70 for two children, $90 for three and $100 for four kids. Kids 8 and under are free.
For Saturday and Sunday only, tickets are $90. Friday or Saturday only are $50 and $45 for Sunday only. Vehicle camping is $65 for a standard size and $80 for a camper.
