Arlington: Book sale at the library
The annual book sale by the Friends of the Arlington Library group is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 across from the library at Second and Washington streets. Checks and cash will be accepted.
Money from the sale supports story times for kids, summer reading programs, a scholarship and the purchase of a new copy machine for the library.

Darrington: Party for summer readers
Young people who finished the Darrington Library’s summer reading program are invited to a party set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the library, 1005 Cascade St.
Granite Falls: Help with school supplies
The Granite Falls Community Coalition is collecting school supplies for its annual backpack and school supply drive for students in the Granite Falls School District.
Items that are needed most include: backpacks, college-ruled paper, pencils, 1- and 2-inch three-ring binders and pencil pouches.
Donations can be dropped off in a collection box located at City Hall, 206 S. Granite Ave.
Marysville: YMCA youth center opens
A new Marysville Family YMCA Youth Development Center is scheduled to open Wednesday. A ceremony is planned at 10 a.m. at the center, located next to the Marysville YMCA at 6420 60th Drive NE.
Tours of the 3,400-square-foot building are set from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and a community barbecue is scheduled for 11:30 am.
Teen and family activities also are planned throughout the day.

Stanwood: Library board opening
The deadline to apply to sit on the Stanwood Library Board is Sept. 2.
The five-member board meets at 2:30 p.m. on the second Monday of March, June, September and December.
