Prep volleyball: South Whidbey 3, Lakewood 2

LANGLEY — South Whidbey won a close fifth set, coming back from four down and finishing with three aces from Megan Longten to beat Lakewood 3-2 (20-25, 25-14, 25-11, 23-25, 15-9) in a Cascade Conference match Tuesday at South Whidbey H.S.

e Falcons, with eight of the kills coming in the second set. Emily Houck was also an asset with 24 assists, five kills, 11 aces, and 19 digs.

“The first set, we came out fired up, but couldn’t pass the ball,” South Whidbey coach Mandy Jones said.

“The second set we came back, we played scrappy defense, and we were on the whole rest of the match.

“In the third set, we fed off some of Lakewood’s errors.

“We had some errors in the fourth set and couldn’t quite come back. We couldn’t put the ball down.

“In the fifth set we were down by four points, we had to come from behind … everybody was on. Our defense tonight was the best it has been all season.”

Jones added: “Lakewood is a fun team, they fought hard … Tasha (Lakewood Head Coach Tasha Kryger) does a good job with them.”

Kaylee Diggs had six kills and 20 digs and Brittany Parmentier had nine digs, nine kills, 11 assists for Lakewood.

South Whidbey moved to 8-2 league, 8-2 overall, Lakewood fell to 4-6, 4-6.
