Monroe High School scholars named
Monroe High School teachers have selected the following Department Scholars:
Art: Maverick Thomas; world languages: Zach Evans; health: Ashley Fungone and Carl Bunge; physical education: Dakota Houmann and Blanca Rodriguez; math: Andrew Horsley and Jamil Lakhani; history: Katie Bigham and Melina Seabrook; agricultural science: Haley Pemble; manufacturing technology: Brenden Baer; English: Wyatt Ivers; instrumental music: Taylor Robinette and Matt Jasper; science: My Chen and Emma Harrison; family and consumer science: Monica Ourada; and ninth-grade humanities: Howard Aikins and Cassie Engvall.
Students are chosen based on interest in their courses, desire to excel and to dig deeper into their areas of study. Leadership and class participation are crucial as well.
MBA student scores high on field test
Columbia College-Marysville Campus MBA student Tatiana Sarmiento scored in the 96th percentile of the Major Field Test, a three-hour exam designed to assess student achievement and curriculum evaluation.
Sarmiento, who earned a bachelor’s degree in linguistics teaching in Russia, has been studying for her masters of business administration while working full-time and raising a toddler.
Her husband serves aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Sarmiento has been inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, an international business degree honor society, with a 4.0 GPA.
Arlington seniors earn Merit honors
Arlington High School seniors Sara Deeter, Robert Kephart, Jessie Rard and Molly Rard have been named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship program.
They will receive a letter of commendation.
“Arlington High School is proud to honor four students this year for such a prestigious and highly competitive national program.,” Principal Brian Beckley said.
