Gary Olson, Lynnwood fire chief, retires

LYNNWOOD — Longtime Lynnwood Fire Chief Gary Olson retired Friday, and the city announced that two assistant chiefs will take turns as interim fire chief.
Greg Macke will serve as interim chief from Nov. 1 through July 2012, according to a memo from Mayor Don Gough. Tod Gates will serve as interim chief from Aug. 1, 2012 through March 2013.
The city is waiting to make a final fire chief decision until early 2013, Gough wrote. City officials also are continuing talks about forming a regional fire authority in south Snohomish County.
A reception is planned for Olson in the coming weeks.
