Cole Gallery & Artist Supplies: 107 Fifth Ave. S., Edmonds; 425-697-2787; www.colegallery.net. Amanda Houston and Michael Orwick bring a new show to the gallery as co-feature artists; both capture light-filled and mystically beautiful Northwest landscapes with grace and insight in oils and pastels. Seattle artist Toshi Asai presents a two-part exhibit that blends visual and literary arts; part one (in the display case) contains “Sakka Series” a collection of famous, significant modern Japanese authors; part two (in the gallery) includes a form of collage-like drawing and painting done during an intensive 30-hour drawing-performance; the show is up through Oct. 29.

Edmonds Community College Art Gallery: 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays, 1 to 5 p.m. weekends, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. An exhibit by artist Evan Blackwell whose “Metropolis” reflects the planning for and response to his piece of the same title commissioned for the front of Meadowdale Hall. Through Dec. 9.

Edmonds Museum: 118 Fifth Ave. N., Edmonds; 425-774-0900. 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. The Pacific Northwest Needle Arts Guild will display more than 40 works of needlecraft during their 2011 Fiber Show through Dec. 31, featuring techniques such as embroidery, quilting, felting, crocheting, knitting, basketry and cross-stitching. Also, a model train exhibit with layout is on permanent display downstairs.

Seagrass Gallery at Islander’s Restaurant: 848 N. Sunrise Blvd., Camano Island; www.seagrassgallery.com. Bev Paulson is a watercolor artist with a sense of humor, along with a keen sense of form and design. Through October.

Artist Janie Olsen’s voice is recognizable in every work whether whimsical or mystical and she has a versatile portfolio — fantasy, animals, illustrations, portraits, from large scale to miniatures. Museum of Northwest Art: 121 S. Sorticulture artists sought: The city of Everett is accepting artist submissions through Dec. 2 to be featured on the 2012 Sorticulture marketing poster for the annual event at Legion Park. The artwork will be used in all promotional materials. Artists should submit an original, two-dimensional artwork in any medium or size focusing on gardening, flowers, birds or other garden wildlife. Artists should submit work via Entrythingy.com; access to the online entry form can be found at enjoyEverett.org. Selection will take place in December by the Everett Cultural Arts Commission. The Town of La Conner: Invites Northwest sculptors to enter a juried competition to have their works displayed for one year in the historic waterfront town of La Conner. The competition is open to three-dimensional artists in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and British Columbia. Artists are asked to submit digital images or slides of their work no later than Dec. 1.
