PORTLAND, Ore. — After a group that labeled itself “The Real Occupy Portland” claimed responsibility for vandalizing two banks in Portland on Saturday night, another group with the same name is denouncing the crimes.

Portland police received an email at 3:01 a.m. Sunday from “The Real Occupy Portland and the 99%” that distanced itself from those who claimed responsibility for vandalism at the Chase Bank and Wells Fargo Bank branches.

The Oregonian reported that the email sent to police on Sunday said the group is a non-profit organization established five days ago.

The group writes that it does not condone either vandalism or violence.
