Meadowdale’s Keane takes aim at two state titles in 50, 100 free

FEDERAL WAY — Meadowdale sophomore Anna Keane was the top qualifier in the 50-yard freestyle Friday during the Class 3A state swim meet with a prelim time of 24.00 seconds. She was the No. 2 qualifier in the 100 freestyle in 52.23.

Shorewood’s Anni Hecker (fourth) and Mountlake Terrace’s Riley Morgan (sixth) also made the championship final in the 50. Shorewood’s Alicia Hoverson (16th) will be in the consolation final. Hecker (sixth) and teammate Annika Stenfjord (seventh) made the championship final in the 100.

Stenfjord made the final in the 200 freestyle, qualifying eighth in 1:59.65. Glacier Peak’s Lauren Cooley (15th) will be in the consolation final.

Oak Harbor’s Ciara Hu will be a finalist in the 200 individual medley, qualifying seventh in 2:13.59. She just missed the final in the 100 butterfly, qualifying ninth in 1:00.88. Shorecrest’s Sarah Semon (14th) also made the consol final in the butterfly.

Glacier Peak’s Katlyn Christenson qualified sixth in the 500 freestyle in 5:13.56 and sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.23. Shorewood’s Christina Garrison (sixth) also made the final in the breaststroke, while Meadowdale’s Anne Shirley (13th) made the consolation final.

Marysville Getchell’s Rachel Hartmeyer (12th) and Cooley (14th) will be in the consolation final in the 500.

Oak Harbor’s Karina Concepcion qualified 14th in the 100 backstroke, followed by Glacier Peak’s Autumn Wunderlich in 15th.

Glacier Peak just missed qualifying for the final in the 200 medley relay, finishing ninth in 1:57.32. The Grizzlies also qualified ninth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:50.75.

Shorewood (11th), Meadowdale (13th) and Oak Harbor (14th) will also be in the consolation final in the medley relay.

Oak Harbor (ninth) suffered Glacier Peak’s fate in te 200 freestyle relay. Shorewood made the championship final, qualifying fifth in 1:43.78. Shorewood also qualified fifth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.48.

Class 4A

Kalena Laurent of Cascade qualified second in the 100 butterfly in 56.92, more than 2 seconds behind Skyline’s Katie Kinnear, who swam an automatic All-America time of 54.31. Laurent was followed by Jackson’s Kaitlin Taylor in 57.23. Lake Stevens’ Lindsay Vanderhoff (13th) made the consolation final.

Laurent also qualified fourth in the 200 freestle in 1:54.43. Lake Stevens’ Kelsey Fallstrom was eighth.

Fallstrom also made the final in the 100 freestyle, finishing fourth in 53.30. Madelene Baker (ninth) of Snohomish, Nichole Carlson (10th) of Cascade, and Madeline Summers (12th) of Lake Stevens made the consolation final.

Taylor qualified eighth in the 200 individual medley. Ella Brooks (ninth) of Snohomish, Lavinya Yap (11th) of Monroe and Laura Johnson (15th) of Kamiak advanced to the consolation final.

Jackson’s Kaela McKee qualified sixth in the 50 freestyle in 24.58. Baker was eighth. Carlson (ninth), Vanderhoff (12th) and Shelby Garrison (13th) of Cascade) will be in the consolation final.

McKee qualified seventh in the 100 backstroke in 59.31 followed by Cathryn Armstrong of Monroe in 59.41. Summers (10th) and Yap (11th) will be in the cdonsolation final.

Cascade’s Demetra Laurent qualified 11th in the 500 freestyle.

Marysville Pilchuck’s Melody Coleman was 10th in the 100 breaststroke. Snohomish’s Alexa Weyer was 13th.

Snohomish qualified second behind Skyline in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:38.90. Lake Stevens (sixth) posted a time of 3:41.13. Cascade was seventh in 3:41.43.

The Panthers qualified fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.27. Jackson (eighth) also made the final.

Lake Stevens (ninth) and Kamiak (15th) qualified for the consolation final.

Cascade qualified eighth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.70. Kamiak was 16th.

Class 2A

Archbishop Murphy’s Sarah Bettag qualified fifth in the 50 freestyle in 25.19 and seventh in the 100 freestyle in 55.24. Teammate Claire McClosky was fifth in the 500 freestyle in5:29.41 and seventh in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.87. And Anna Maher (16th) advanced to the consolation final in the 100 backstroke.

Murphy’s 200 freestyle relay team qualified for the consolation final with the 10th-best time (1:48.79). Its 400 freestyle relay team was 12th in 4:03.33.
