Rep. Roberts on why she opposed rainy-day fund amendment

Voters apparently have passed a state Constitutional amendment to require the Legislature to put additional money into the state rainy-day fund during times of “extraordinary revenue growth.”

One person who opposed it was Democratic state Rep. Mary Helen Roberts.

Senate Joint Resolution 8206 was passing Friday with a 66.79 percent statewide approval rate.

Roberts, who was one of 10 representatives to vote against putting the measure on the ballot, said Monday that the amendment is a needless restriction on legislative authority.

The amendment had passed unanimously in the state Senate before the House passed it, 76-10.

Roberts represents the 21st Legislative District, including Lynnwood, Mukilteo, most of Edmonds and a small part of Mountlake Terrace.
