50 years ago (1961)
Representative of all the Brownies and Girl Scouts in the area were new Brownie members from Roosevelt School whose investiture took place recently. They were Debbie Scoleri, Kathleen Erickson, Gerilynn King, Janice Lawson and Judith Yoder. Others in the group were Leah Rae Blair, Nancy Edgmon, Nancy Ibsen, Debbie Zimmerman and Mary Ann Wheeler.
Held over at the Everett Theater was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” starring Audrey Hepburn with George Peppard and Mickey Rooney. Coming next week was Elvis Presley in “Blue Hawaii.”
25 years ago (1986)
Bit by bit, bolt by bolt, file cabinet by hydraulic turret lathe, the machinery that made up Western Gear here was sold in the first of three days of public auction. For Richard Brown, a Western Gear machinist for 31 years, the bargain-basement prices early in the sale were depressing. William Fox was the auctioneer.
Mountain Products at 1001 Broadway was having a pre-ski season sale. Men’s and ladies’ ski bibs were $19.97 as were ladies’ down jackets. Sweaters were $15.95. Mountain Products also had stores in Seattle, Bellingham, Wenatchee and Longview.
