MONROE — No injuries were reported in a crash that caused a traffic headache on U.S. 2 in Monroe on Sunday night.
The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. near Lewis Street, according to a Washington State Patrol memo.
A trooper was trying to pull over a car when the car reportedly ran the red light, Trooper Keith Leary said. The trooper followed the car and accidentally struck another vehicle in the intersection.
Amid the commotion, the first car’s driver ran away from the scene. Troopers worked with Monroe police officers to identify the driver, and they were looking for him Monday.
Investigators are sorting out the details of what happened. The crash backed up traffic in the area for some time.
