Catching up

Cleaning up a few of things from the past few days:
– First, Everett coach Mark Ferner on Everett’s firing of general manager Doug Soetaert last Thursday: “Doug is a great man and a great hockey person. We all feel terrible what happened, no question. He brought us all here. As a coach and as players we have to take some of that responsibility in that we haven’t done a good enough job as a group. Unfortunately, someone lost their job because of it.”
– The Tips could be without overage defenseman Brennan Yadlowski for the crucial upcoming games at Victoria. Yadlowski was suspended by the league for a time to be determined for actions following Friday’s 7-3 loss at Portland. The Tips are expecting to learn the length of the suspension Tuesday. Yadlowski picked up a fighting major toward the end of Friday’s game when he was jumped by Portland’s Jason Trott, and he was livid and bleeding when he was escorted off the ice. Ferner said, “(Yadlowski) did something he probably shouldn’t have done,” and declined to get more specific.
– The Tips left for their trip to Victoria this morning. I’m told the ferry ride from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay is spectacular, and they received a tremendous sunny day for the trip. It’s not often I’m jealous of Everett’s road trips, but this is one of those instances.
