“Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters” brings the thrill and wonder of Zimbabwe to the stage.
As part of Village Theatre’s Pied Piper series, this story brings an original heart-pumping score — authentic African drumming helps — and powerful choreography against the backdrop of a mystical jungle, according to a press release.
This is a Caldecott award winner, a “Cinderella” tale by John Steptoe.
The story sets off when a great African king desires a wife and only the most perfect maidens will do. Of course, Mufaro offers his two daughters.
In a half a day’s journey through the jungle and across a deep river, the daughters are to be presented to the king. Along the way, the two girls of different dispositions encounter a number of mysterious situations that test their courage, kindness, and strength of spirit, the press release said.
“Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters” performs at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave., Everett. Tickets are $15. Call 425-385-4045 or go to Village Theatre.
