Bottle shock
Washington’s wine industry contributes $8.6 billion a year and 30,000 jobs to the state’s economy, according to a new study.
In a separate report, written after they polished off several bottles of merlot, the study’s authors revised those figures upward to $500 gazillion in economic impact and 2.5 million-billion jobs.
Youth movement: Reaching out to the younger voters who helped elect him in 2008, President Barack Obama is speaking this week on college campuses in crucial swing states, appearing on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and sitting down for an interview with Rolling Stone magazine publisher Jann Wenner, age 66.
The Rolling Stone interview will reach young voters who happen to see the magazine lying around at the home of their Uncle Steve, who says he was at Woodstock.
Speaking of old-timey rock stars: Ted Nugent pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally killing a bear in Alaska. The Nuge was fined $10,000, given two years of probation and banned from hunting on federal land for a year.
According to online prediction market Intrade.com, there currently is a 60.1 percent chance Nugent will be dead or in jail a year from now, rendering the punishment moot.
