Felony charge for allegedly helping boy play hooky

MONROE — A Monroe woman is facing a felony charge for allegedly lying to help her teenage son’s friend skip school.

Jackie Sevillano, 32, committed first-degree criminal impersonation on May 4 when she called Monroe school officials, claimed to be the boy’s mother, and said he was not in class because he was at a doctor’s appointment, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Walt Sowa said.

School officials didn’t buy the ruse, and called the boy’s parents. They were alarmed, Sowa said. The boy later was tracked down by police, who found him with another teen. The pair reportedly admitted spending the day trespassing and smoking marijuana, the prosecutor wrote.

Sevillano offered “a series of poorly constructed lies” when confronted by police, but eventually admitted calling the school and misrepresenting her identity.

The felony charge was filed after Sevillano rejected an offer to plead guilty to attempted first-degree criminal impersonation, a gross misdemeanor, court papers said.
