Snohomish Library marks 10 years with celebration Sunday

SNOHOMISH — A 10-year anniversary celebration and open house is planned this weekend at the Snohomish Library.

The library at 311 Maple Avenue opened on July 14, 2003, part of the Sno-Isle Libraries. At 23,000 square-foot, it nearly doubled the space available before, and included 80 parking spaces.

In 2008, the library made it onto a list of national favorite libraries compiled by Nancy Pearl, a former Seattle librarian and public radio book commentator. The anniversary celebration is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday. Local historian David Dilgard will speak about Snohomish’s past and how its library services have changed over time. There also will be a photo slideshow and light refreshments.

Before the new library opened, the Carnegie Building downtown for decades served as the city’s library.

Restoration efforts at the older building are ongoing, according to the project website.
