Theater closes to bad reviews

Ladies! And Gentlemen! The “Thriller of Capital Hill” is over! Did you see it? It was the Greatest Show on Earth! In one corner we had the “Confederacy” wing of the Republican Party. They did battle with the ever powerful “Lords of Finance” faction of the same Republican Party. At stake in this contest was nothing less than the credit rating and prestige of the United States!

My money, and I hope yours, was on the “Lords of Finance.” Yes, the “Lords” beat the “Confederacy” in a split decision, in this, the latest knock-down, drag-out version of the Civil War. Rest easy, your 401K is now safe for Wall Street.

At the beginning of our contest the Republicans laughed and said “Let’s roll! Down with Obamacare! A financial collapse is a pipe dream!”

Now, the only people laughing are Senator Ted Cruz, who reaped millions in contributions, and the Chinese, who see this mess as an opportunity to replace America as the most trusted financial backstop on earth.

The sad fact of the matter is that we all lost. We lost as a result of the incomparable stupidity displayed by a group of leaders who would not lead.
