EVERETT — The Everett girls basketball team completed the early nonleague portion of its schedule undefeated after defeating Monroe 55-41 on Wednesday night.

Everett head coach John Low said his team struggled with Monroe’s pressure defense in the first quarter and it showed on the scoreboard as the Seagulls trailed by one after the first quarter.

Behind senior guard Sidney Rielly Everett came back and built a six-point lead at halftime. Rielly scored half of her team’s points in the first half with 14.

“Tonight was a great example of her scoring in a lot of different ways,” Low said. “She really showed her versatility.”

Rielly finished the game with 24 points.

The Seagulls outrebounded the Bearcats 31-25 and held Monroe to just 26 percent shooting from the field. But Everett was aided most shooting 7-for-8 in the final period from the free-throw line.

After wins over Mariner, Cascade, Mount Vernon and Monroe, Everett opens its Wesco 3A league schedule next Wednesday facing Oak Harbor.

“I thought Monroe gave us the best test so far,” Low said. “Last year we had this as our first loss, so we kind of had this as a game we wanted to get.”
