Tips score some goals

Everett evened its preseason record Friday, beating Seattle 4-2 at the Tri-City Preseason Tournament in Kennewick.

Everett twice fell behind, but scored the game’s final three goals to pull ahead. Carter Cochrane, Remi Laurencelle, Tyler Sandhu and Matt Fonteyne scored the goals for the Tips. Everett outshot Seattle 27-25.

In goal, Austin Lotz started and stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced. Nik Amundrud played the second half of the game and turned aside all 12 shots he saw.

There’s only so much one can tell about a game based on looking at the box score, but the most noteworthy aspect of this game is that Everett scored four goals. That’s the same number the Tips scored in all three of their games last weekend combined, so I’m sure Everett’s brass is pleased with that.

Everett played a pretty veteran crew up front, including all three of its overagers. However, the Tips were green on defense, suiting up just two veterans, one of whom is a 17-year-old. Meanwhile, Seattle iced a lineup that was very veteran on defense (two 20s, two 19s, all with 143-plus games in the WHL) and played overage goaltender Taran Kozun the entire game, but the T-birds played without any overage forwards.

Both center Kohl Bauml and defenseman Noah Juulsen played for Everett after sitting out all three of last weekend’s games.

Everett concludes its time in Kennewick when it plays Kootenay at 11 a.m. Saturday.
