STANWOOD — The Stanwood offense rushed for 248 total yards and shut Everett out in the second half to pick up its first victory of the season in a Wesco 3A North matchup Friday night.
The big total on the ground was by design. Stanwood coach Dave Telford said his team rededicated itself to the run during practice this week, and it paid dividends.
“We got under center a lot more and tried to be more of a rushing team,” he said. “Our offensive line played much more aggressively and blocked for longer periods of time.”
Kyle Jackels had 79 rushing yards and a touchdown to lead a trio of Spartan backs, and also returned an interception for a touchdown for Stanwood’s final score.
“Our defense played really well in the second half,” Telford said.
