ARLINGTON — Glacier Peak’s defense intercepted Arlington four times, and Brady Southard threw touchdown passes to three different receivers to lead the Grizzlies to a 27-6 victory over Arlington on Saturday in a Wesco 3A crossover game.
Both the Grizzlies and Eagles will qualify for the playoffs.
Southard connected with Justin Guffey, Cole McFadden and Dexter Carter on scoring passes in the first half, but Glacier Peak coach Rory Rosenbach said it was the ability of the Grizzlies defensive front to pressure the passer that swung things in its favor.
“Our defensive staff had a great game plan. We were able to pressure the quarterback with three and four-man rushes, which helped us stay out of man-to-man coverage,” Rosenbach said. “Our defense was able to get its hands on some passes.”
Southard completed 12-of-19 for 132 yards and the three scores, but also threw a pair of interceptions.
“We found an early offensive rhythm,” Rosenbach said. “We were able to get in rhythm and play with a lead. Our confidence kicked in.”
Kyler Smith scored on a 31-yard run in the third quarter for Arlington to cut the lead to 21-6, but Spencer Pettit kicked a pair of late field goals for the Grizzlies. Pettit also had two of Glacier Peak’s interceptions.
