Prep girls soccer: Ferndale 3, Stanwood 1

FERNDALE — Espy Sanchez scored in the 14th minute for Stanwood, but Ferndale answered with two second-half goals five minutes apart to defeat the Spartans 3-1 in a District 1 3A tournament match Thursday.

Stanwood was eliminated from the postseason and finished the season with a record of 6-12-1.

Sanchez’s goal tied the match at 1-1 after Ferndale’s Jillian Monson scored just two minutes into the game.
