Seahawks draft a defensive tackle to play guard… again

Because the Seahawks sometimes like to do things a little differently, they picked Buffalo defensive tackle Kristjan Sokoli in the sixth round, then announced the pick as guard Kristjan Sokoli.

Yes, folks, it appears the Seahawks plan to “Sweezy” Sokoli, turning him from a lightly-regarded D-line prospect into a very athletic guard.

Sokoli said Seattle was the only team that approached him about making such a move, and said “it was definitely good to see it worked before” with J.R. Sweezy, the former NC State DT the Seahawks turned into a starting guard.

Sokoli, who emigrated from Albania when he was nine, has a soccer background and was a kicker and punter in high school. He joked he would be happy to serve as Seattle’s third-string kicker or punter, and thinks he could hit a field goal from 50 yards. I would never wish injury upon Steven Hauschka or any other player; I would, however, love to see a 300-pound guard attempt a field goal some day.
