Prep Athletes of the Week 5/10-5/16

Lucas Jungmann

Lynnwood | Baseball

Jungmann pitched a complete game two-hitter on Saturday to lead the Royals to a 3-0 victory over Shorewood in the 3A District 1 Championship game. The Royals evened the season series with Shorewood this season at two games apiece and will face Auburn Riverside in the first round of the state tournament on Saturday.

Hannah Larson

Marysville Pilchuck | Softball

Larson hit for the cycle in a 14-10 win over Oak Harbor last Monday. She completed the cycle in the most spectacular way, hitting a walk-off grand slam home run to break a 10-10 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Tomahawks went 2-0 for the week and secured a second-place finish in the Wesco 3A North. They are the No. 3 seed in the 3A District 1 Tournament, which starts on Tuesday.

Hal Uderitz

Snohomish | Boys Soccer

Uderitz scored on a header off of a corner kick in the 80th minute to give the Panthers a 2-1 victory over Kamiak in the 4A Distirct 1 Championship game. Uderitz’s third goal of the season gave Snohomish a district championship and clinched a berth in the state tournament where it will try to defend its 4A state championship from a year ago.

Elizabeth Norris

Kamiak | Girls Tennis

Norris won her opening round match of the 4A District 1 Tournament without losing a single game and won her quarterfinal match losing just two games last Thursday.

Griffey Lytle

Everett | Boys Track

Lytle took first place in the javelin at Friday’s Wesco 3A North championships with a throw of 184-09, just 11 inches behind his season best of 185-08. Lytle is ranked sixth among the 3A javelin throwers this season.

Kiera Towell

Edmonds-Woodway | Girls Track

Towell won the shot put at the Wesco 3A South championships on Friday with a throw of 37-1. Towell’s throw puts her just outside the top 10 throws in the state this season with the district and state championships approaching.

Luke Kuna &Ben Gardner

Snohomish | Boys Golf

Kuna and Gardner tied for medalist honors each shooting a one-under 69 at the Wesco 4A championships on Thursday. Snohomish won the tournament with a team score of 369, which was 47 strokes ahead of second-place Lake Stevens.

Renee Kwak

Kamiak | Girls Golf

Kwak shot a three-over 75 for the best score of day one of the 4A District 1 tournament.

Jeremy Smith

Stanwood | Boys Lacrosse

Smith saved 17 shots for Stanwood in Friday’s 8-7 overtime loss to Lakeside in the first round of the Division 1 state tournament. Stanwood advanced to the state tournament in its first year competing in Division 1.

The Snohomish Girls Lacrosse Team

Snohomish won its first two games of the state tournament to advance to the state semifinals for a second consecutive season. Snohomish entered the tournament as the 13th overall seed, but surpassed expectations to win two games before falling to eventual state champion Issaquah last Wednesday.
