AquaSox offense struggles in loss to Dust Devils

PASCO – The potent Everett AquaSox offense had an off night Wednesday as the Frogs fell to the Tri-City Dust Devils 8-1 at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.
Everett leads the Northwest League with 89 runs scored but couldn’t get much going on offense against the Dust Devils. The Frogs’ lone run came on a sacrifice fly by Luis Liberato that scored Drew Jackson in the top of the fifth inning.
The one run tied a season-low for the Frogs, who also scored just once in a 6-1 loss to Boise last Sunday. Through their first 14 games of the season the Sox have outscored opponents 89-67.
Four Tri-City pitchers combined to tally 11 strikeouts against Everett. Jackson and first baseman Ryan Uhl each went 2-for-4 to lead the AquaSox in the loss. Both players are batting .325 or higher this season for Everett.
The Dust Devils scored eight runs on just four hits in the game. A pair of home runs by Peter Van Gansen and Henry Charles got the scoring started for Tri-City in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Dust Devils’ first two hits of the game.
Van Gansen led off the inning with a homer to right center field and, after a groudout and a walk by Carlos Belen, Charles followed with another blast to right center.
Everett’s troubles continued in the fifth with a hit batter and walk to start the inning. With two outs, Jose Carlos Urena hit a two-run single to left field to score Justin Pacchioli and Rod Boykin.
Tri-City (7-7) added three more runs on an error in the eighth to help put the game away.
Everett remains atop the NWL North Division standings at 10-4. The AquaSox, who continue the three-game series with Tri-City on Thursday, currently boast the best record in the eight-team league.
