INDEX — The search resumed Monday morning for the body of a man who disappeared while swimming on the North Fork Skykomish River.

The missing man is in his early 20s and from the Lake Stevens area.

A 911 report was received around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the King County Police Department and fire department personnel responded to the 62000 block of Index-Galena Road near the Troublesome Creek Campground.

The missing man was in a group with three other people when he and another man went swimming in the river.

The area was beneath a waterfall and was turbulent and difficult to swim in, Snohomish County sheriff’s Capt. Susy Johnson said.

One swimmer barely made it out of the water. The missing man went under and didn’t resurface.

The operation shifted from a rescue mission to a recovery mission Sunday night, Johnson said.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team suspended its search Sunday night due to the technically complicated and remote area and the need for daylight.
