Seal: Time capsule gets buried in Edmonds
Dignitaries and schoolchildren will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday for a ceremony to seal and place a time capsule at the base of the bell tower in the new Edmonds Museum Plaza, 118 Fifth Ave. N.
The capsule, filled with items that reflect life in 2015, is to then be opened in 2040 as part of the 150th anniversary celebration of the founding of Edmonds.
Earlier this year the fourth-grade class at Edmonds’ Holy Rosary School volunteered to work with the Edmonds-South Snohomish County Historical Society and Museum to select the capsule items as part of their state history curriculum. Three students chosen from across Edmonds city schools also will have essays in the capsule following a contest that asked for the three most important events in city history.

Prep: Are you ready for an emergency?
September is National Preparedness Month, and this year’s theme is “Don’t Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today.”
During an emergency, local officials and relief workers will be on scene, but cannot reach everyone immediately. This might result in it taking several days before help arrives — like with the region’s recent windstorms, when many homes were without power and water for more than three days.
Households should have enough food, water and other emergency supplies to last for at least 72 hours, as well as an alternate way to communicate with loved ones.

Read: Library offers programs for little ones
Local libraries offer story times for young children and their parents and caregivers.
At Sno-Isle Libraries and Everett Public Library branches, the baby, toddler and preschool storytimes aim to help young children learn language and, as they get older, to get ready for kindergarten. There also are programs with dogs for children to practice reading to, and music-filled “Ready to Read and Rock” programs.
