Man arrested in Marysville after chase of stolen car

MARYSVILLE — The pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle Tuesday ended with the arrest of a man wanted by the state Department of Corrections.

The drama unfolded around 4:30 p.m. when a patrol officer saw the man getting into a car on Cedar Avenue in the south end of town. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Pierce County.

The officer stopped the car. Two passengers jumped out and ran, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said. The driver then sped away.

The pursuit was broken off because the suspect was driving “extremely recklessly,” Lamoureux said.

However, another Marysville officer was able to use spike strips that flattened the tires of the vehicle. The suspect, 34, drove into a residential neighborhood near Jennings Park, got out and ran. He was tracked down by a police dog and taken into custody. He told officers he fled because he was wanted on a kidnapping conviction that would send him back to prison.

He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of possessing a stolen vehicle and eluding police. His passengers were questioned and released.
