Flashback: The future is now
Great Scott! Come watch “Back to the Future II” on the date to which Marty McFly travels in the time-traveling movie, 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St. Cost is $7 at the door or $5 if purchased ahead of time.
Proceeds benefit the Lynnwood High School Class of 2016 for their graduation party. (The 1989 movie came out well before any of them were born, by the way.) Compare what predictions the movie made for Oct. 21, 2015, with reality with some admiration (“smart” watches), relief (no “Jaws 19”) and disappointment (flying cars, anyone?).

Light: Domestic violence awareness
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Snohomish County cities are giving out free purple light bulbs for business owners and residents to shine on their porches. The bulbs also can be purchased at most retailers.
In 2014, the Lynnwood Police Department responded to 770 domestic violence-related calls. The Lynnwood Police Department this year held a clothing drive and collected more than 600 items for Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County thrift store in Everett and the Women’s Shelter of Snohomish County.
If you live in Lynnwood, here are some things local police encourage you to do:
*Install a purple light at your front porch to show your support of Domestic Violence Awareness month.
*Donate full-sized toiletries to the front lobby of the Lynnwood Police Department through October (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste).
Contact Lynnwood Police Department Victim Services Coordinator Tiffany Krusey if you have questions about domestic violence.
