Troop 42149 Girl Scouts Pheobe Wysong, Elizabeth Wysong, Debra Rummel, Mia Felt and Christina Kyle recently earned Silver and Bronze awards for a big service project.
The girls had worked in summer 2014 at the Port Susan Camping Club, logging more than 80 hours each to build the Gold Rock Trail. The work included building a bridge over a culvert, clearing the area to build stairs leading to the big field, and adding handmade birdhouses along the walkway.
Camping Club board members Louis Graumond and Steffeny Higdon, along with Scout leaders Karla Felt, Christy Reitan, Hilary Rummel and Kevin “Grampy” Reitan, assisted.
The girls all had attended Garfield Elementary School, where the troop is based. Elizabeth, Debra and Christina are now in sixth grade at North Middle School; Pheobe is a freshman and Mia is a sophomore at Everett High School.
Volunteers clean park for Veterans Day
Eight employees from the Aurora Village Home Depot on Oct. 11 assisted Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 and the Auxiliary with a fall cleanup of Lynnwood Veterans’ Park. The local Red Cross Chapter donated refreshments. “We are grateful for all their help in getting our park ready for Veterans’ Day, Nov. 11th,” said Myra Rintamaki of the VFW Auxiliary.
