Haunted house in Stanwood

The Stanwood Community and Senior Center is hosting a haunted house fundraiser Friday and Saturday at 7430 276th St. NW, behind Stanwood High School. The haunted house is open from 6 to 8 p.m. both days. Admission is $5. Additional donations are accepted. Groups can take photos with a costumed zombie for $10.

Mill Creek looks for volunteers

The city of Mill Creek is seeking volunteers to fill two vacancies on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The appointments run through Oct. 31, 2018.

Board meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

The board advises the City Council and staff on development, design, use and operation of parks and recreation programs and facilities. It plans for improvements.

Applicants should send a letter of interest to the city clerk at 15728 Main St., Mill Creek, WA 98012, or deliver it to City Hall by 5 p.m. Thursday.

Changes at fire district

Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens is accepting applications for its deputy chief and fire marshal positions. This week, the district announced that longtime firefighter Dave Petersen will serve as the assistant fire marshal. He started in that job Oct. 12 and will work on safety programs in schools.

The district has said it planned to hire a new deputy chief by Nov. 1.
