The Game

Everett (4-3-0-0) lost its second straight to its rivals from the south as the Winterhawks notched a 2-0 victory Friday at Xfinity Arena.

The Silvertips certainly got off to a better start than last weekend’s 5-1 shellacking at Portland as they out-shot the Hawks 16-8 in the opening frame and 31-27 for the game.

Yet it was Portland that found the net, once in the opening period when Colton Veloso beat Carter Hart for the early lead, and again for an empty-netter by Dominic Turgeon with 14 seconds to play.

The Tips will try to bounce back against red-hot Seattle which beat Vancouver Friday night and has won six straight.

The Turning Point

Any of Everett’s power plays. The Tips didn’t convert any of their three opportunities after entering the game 7 for their last 15 in power play chances.

Three Stars

1. Portland G Adin Hill: Hill was masterful for the second straight game against the Tips as he turned away all 31 Everett shots to earn the shutout.

2. Everett G Carter Hart: The one goal Hart allowed was a tough one as the 17-year-old star recorded 25 saves in a stout defensive effort.

3. Portland F Rodrigo Abols: The Latvian had an assist and was plus-2 for the night to earn the third star.
