Silvertips back in action tonight

The Silvertips return to action tonight against – guess who? – the Portland Winterhawks of course. This marks the fourth time the teams have squared off this season and following Sunday’s game in Portland the two teams will have played half of their scheduled 10 regular-season match-ups.
“We basically know each other by now,” assistant captain Cole MacDonald said Thursday. ‘We know their little plays and ideas and stuff, and I’m sure they know ours. We’ve been studying them quite a bit. Now we just have to execute our plays better than they do.”
The Winterhawks made a huge splash Thursday as they acquired 20-year-old forward Rihards Bukarts. You may remember Bukarts from the powerful goal he tallied from just inside the blue line Wednesday as Brandon beat the Tips 3-2 in a shootout. Now Everett gets to contend with him again today and Sunday.
Oregonlive.com blogger Dylan Bumbarger writes, “I’d say on paper this makes the Winterhawks the second-best team in the division, and puts them within sniffing distance of the Seattle Thunderbirds for top spot.”
So the Tips are certainly in for a challenge the rest of the weekend.
Wednesday’s game was a milestone for center Remi Laurencelle (200 WHL games) and equipment manager James Stucky (1,500 games worked). Stucky has been with the team since its inception and is a great conversation partner during practice sessions.
