REDMOND — King’s beat the Pioneers for the second time in as many weeks on Saturday, but this victory, in a 1A Bi-District loser-out match at Overlake H.S., clinched a 1A state tournament berth for King’s.

Daylee Hansen recorded 10 kills for the Knights (15-2) and Sydney Gaenz tacked on nine as King’s posted a sweep.

“There was a lot of rejoicing. While it’s the 12th-straight time that we’ve done it (reached state), nobody takes it for granted. We feel grateful since it was a loser-out match,” King’s associate head coach Bart Foley said.

Casey Kispert led King’s with 31 assists and Anna Hoff tacked on 20 assists and a pair of aces.

“Give a lot of credit to Nooksack, because they’re a scrappy team that kept a lot of balls alive today, but we were able to play first contact really well,” Foley said. “That kept us in system a lot and gave Casey a number of options and a lot of different balls she could play.”

Foley also credited his team’s serving with disrupting the Pioneers’ offensive system.

King’s will enter the 1A state tournament as the bi-district’s No. 2 seed, and will find out its first opponent when the draws are posted on Sunday.
