SALEM, Ore. — Marion County sheriff’s deputies have rescued a 17-year-old girl from a cellphone tower in Salem, which they say she climbed in an apparent suicide attempt.

The Statesman Journal reports that deputies spotted the girl Tuesday while driving and pulled over to talk to her as she continued to climb.

Additional deputies and a fire crews from Marion County and Salem reported to the scene.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt LaCrosse, who is a trained negotiator, persuaded the girl to climb toward the waiting fire personnel. She was taken to Salem Hospital for mental health evaluations.
