The Game

The Everett Silvertips were in control from the outset as they defeated the Spokane Chiefs 3-1 Sunday evening.

The Tips showed no ill effects from playing their third road game in three nights as they scored once in each period. Only a late goal from Wyatt Johnson ruined Carter Hart’s shutout bid.

Speaking of Hart, he had several spectacular saves as he really seemed “on” from the get-go – unlike Saturday when he struggled in the first period before settling in during the second and third stanzas.

If the Silvertips are going to make a push in the postseason need to get points from more than just their first line of Dawson Leedahl-Remi Laurencelle-Carson Stadnyk. They took a big step in that direction Sunday as Dario Winkler, Brandon Ralph and Tristen Pfeifer all tallied goals. Winkler generally plays on the third line with Ralph on the fourth. Pfeifer is a defenseman who added an assist to an overall impressive night by the 19-year-old.

The Turning Point

Carter Hart saved a point-blank look at 9:43 in the opening period. Everett led 1-0 at the time and that save set the tone for Hart’s performance the rest of the way.

Three Stars

1. Everett G Carter Hart: No argument here as the 17-year-old finished with 29 saves on 30 shots.

2. Spokane F Wyatt Johnson: Johnson broke up the shutout late in the third period.

3. Everett F Dario Winkler: The Austrian opened the scoring with his third goal of the season.

Honorable Mention: Everett D Tristen Pfeifer, who scored his second goal of the year and added an assist.

The Box Score

ICYMI: The Tips made a small move Sunday as they traded Jaeger White to the Brandon Wheat Kings at the WHL trade deadline.
