MARYSVILLE — Expect more traffic backups on southbound I-5 Saturday and Sunday as construction crews replace expansion joints on the Steamboat Slough Bridge.
Contractors expected to start re-striping the southbound lanes at 8 p.m. Friday, to shift traffic to the left side of the freeway. They plan to reduce southbound I-5 to two narrow lanes with a speed limit of 45 mph. Overnight Friday and Sunday, crews plan to reduce that stretch to a single lane.
All three southbound lanes should reopen by 4 a.m. Monday.
The Highway 528 on-ramp to southbound I-5 may be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and again from 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
This is the last planned weekend of expansion joint replacement work in the southbound lanes. The Washington State Department of Transportation plans to begin replacing expansion joints in the northbound lanes in April, weather permitting.
